The purpose of a speed limit is to
provide for the safety of all highway users. To meet
this purpose a speed limit must be acceptable to the
public and be enforceable by police.
By state law, speed limits on county
roads are set by the Michigan State Police after a joint
traffic study with the road commission.
For more detailed information on this
subject, the Houghton County Road Commission has three
booklets which explain the process of setting speed
limits.
